Author Brigid Kemmerer To Discuss Fantasy And Fiction At Severna Park Library

Pasadena author Brigid Kemmemer often pens tales about the struggles faced by teens in the real world, but for her newest book, “A Curse So Dark and Lonely,” she ventured into fantasy. Bookworms can meet Kemmerer and discuss her new book during an event at the Severna Park Library on Saturday, February 23, at 2:00pm.

In May 2018, Kemmerer told the Severna Park Voice’s sister publication, the Pasadena Voice, that “it’s kind of like ‘Beauty and the Beast’ crossed with ‘Groundhog Day.’ The prince is cursed to turn into a monster … and he has to deal with whatever mayhem his monster may have caused.”

Her new fable introduces new characters who inhabit an enchanting world. Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall, is cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over. He knew he could be saved if he fell in love, but that was before he knew he would transform into a vicious beast at the end of each autumn, before he destroyed his castle and his family.

Harper Lacy, constantly judged because of her cerebral palsy, is grieving her dying mother, who was preceded in death by Harper’s father. When Harper tries to save someone on the streets of Washington, D.C., she is sucked into Rhen’s world.

A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall? Will it take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen and his people from utter ruin?
