Bill Bateman’s Continues To Be A Community Gathering Spot

Thirty years ago, the first Bill Bateman’s Bistro opened as a simple bar, with a dirt parking lot, tucked away in a Parkville neighborhood. While Bill Bateman had no intention of growing beyond the original location at the time, the success of the business resulted in expansion.

“Word spread of the great chicken wings and all the different flavors,” said Sean Egan, general manager of the Severna Park location.

The restaurant recently celebrated 17 years in Severna Park, where the staff continues to offer great deals.

“Every night, somebody can come in and they can hear there’s something on special,” Egan said.

Mondays offer $12.99 all-you-can-eat wings with the purchase of a beverage. On Tuesdays, Bill Bateman’s serves ribs for $15.99 with french fries, coleslaw and garlic bread included. Tuesday also offers a kids-eat-free special and $15 bottles of wine. On Wednesdays, diners can eat a half-pound jumbo lump crab cake dinner for $12 and drink $3 drafts all day. Thursdays wrap up the work week with a fried shrimp dinner for $7.99. Any night of the week, wing lovers can dine on 79-cent wings from 9:00pm to close.

Because Bill Bateman’s is celebrating 30 years since opening the first location, 30-cent wings are available on the 30th day of each month until the end of the year.

“That’s kind of a thank you to the community to run a special like that,” Egan said.

When wing lovers show up to this longstanding establishment for a wing special, they won’t be disappointed with a lack of options as 23 flavors of both boneless and regular wings are offered.

While the middle of the restaurant houses a glassed-in bar area catering to the happy hour crowd, the restaurant prides itself on offering a family-friendly environment. According to Egan, “families have always been the backbone of the business.” When school is in session, Bill Bateman’s feeds many hungry teens and kids from local sports teams. They also serve as a place for community group meetings and events.

Big groups might go to Bill Bateman’s to watch the game on their numerous TVs, but the restaurant also tries to get out and approach crowds at local events such as the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Trade Fair at Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company.

To take advantage of the many specials and family-friendly atmosphere Bill Bateman’s has to offer, visit the Severna Park location at 566 Ritchie Highway in Park Plaza.
