Breaking Into Racing

Posted

The Magothy River Sailing Association (MRSA) is off to the races! We held our first Wednesday night round the buoys race on April 20. Twelve hearty crews turned out in moderate but chilly winds at our course off of Dobbins Island; it was a great way to knock off the rust. We skipped the following week since gale force winds were predicted, but as the season progresses, we’re looking forward to our usual cadre of 20 or more boats.

We’d love to have you join us on Wednesday nights. There’s nothing more exhilarating than harnessing wind, the tide, and your brain to be the first to get the gun. We’re open to training new sailors and have set up a boat/crew matching page on our website: www.magothysailing.org/racing/crew-boat. Whether you’re an old hand at racing who doesn’t have a boat, a new boat owner who wants to learn about racing, or a newbie who’s watched sailing and wants to be part of the action, we want to hear from you!

We also offer junior training to youth ages 9 to 17. Registration is open for this summer’s two-week program that will be held weekdays at the Grachur Club from Monday, July 11, through Friday, July 22. This affordable camp provides an educational and fun experience on the Magothy River.
