The Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce (GSPACC) will hold its annual Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, January 19, from 10:00am to 4:00pm at Holy Grounds Youth Center.

This year, GSPACC CEO Liz League wants to make the event more interactive. Speakers in the health and wellness field will give presentations throughout the day, and all 25 exhibitors will have interactive aspects to their displays.

“They’ve had demonstrations, but I think it’s important to get everybody talking about what the benefits are,” League said.

Speakers include a scientist from Johns Hopkins who will share the latest discoveries in Alzheimer's; a veterinarian who will discuss pet health, vaccinations and fleas; and a speaker who will highlight the benefits of essential oils.

The exhibitors will be strictly limited to those in the health and wellness field. Interactive displays include spine and posture evaluations, and concussion assessments.

“We bring our businesses that are in the health and wellness field together with the community,” League said. “It’s important to help people stick to their New Year’s resolutions, and hopefully health and wellness does fit into their New Year’s resolutions.”

Also new this year, Anne Arundel Medical Center will have a bloodmobile at the event, so there will be a blood drive throughout the day.

The first Health & Wellness Fair was held in 2015. Terry Cooch, owner of TLC Home LLC and a current chamber board member, started the fair.

“The No. 1 reason clients reach out to me for organizing help is to reduce stress. I wanted an opportunity to draw the connection between organization and good health,” Cooch said. “Keeping a clutter-free home is difficult, and many individuals need a powerful motivator to create and maintain efficient organization systems. If they can do that, they will reduce stress and avoid the many unhealthy consequences initiated or aggravated by stress.”

League said it’s important for community members to focus on health and wellbeing, and take preventative steps for their health.

“People will learn, and they’ll walk away with valuable information,” League said. “It’s going to be worth their time and our exhibitors’ time.”
