Chamber Update

Posted

I hope you’re having a great summer! It’s hard to believe that we’re now in August, and college students are starting to gather their dorm supplies, and younger students are picking out their book bags! It seems like yesterday we were lining up for the annual Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce Independence Day Parade! I want to thank everyone who watched or participated in the parade. The streets were lined with people who came out to enjoy the day and display their patriotic spirit. The parade is one of the chamber’s signature events and we’re proud to do this every year for our community.

At the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce, we’re getting ready for our End of Summer Bash mixer on Thursday, August 24, at Walden Country Club. This is a multi-organization event with networking potential galore. There will be plenty of food, and even a special performance by Meki’s Tamure Polynesian Dance Group. The fee is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers/walk-ins. Full details and registration are online at www.severnaparkchamber.com, or you can attain them by contacting the chamber.

We’re also participating in a power connections breakfast on Wednesday, August 16, at the Maritime Conference Center in Linthicum. Kelly Schulz – the Maryland secretary of labor, licensing, & regulation – will be a special guest speaker. This event has sold out in the past, so early registration is encouraged. The cost is $30 for members of the chamber prepaid, $35 at the door and $45 for nonmembers. Online registration is available.

The chamber’s Successful Women in Business initiative is holding a wine & chocolates mixer on Wednesday, August 30, at Coterie, a Boutique. The event will feature chocolates from Coco Couture and a wine tasting by Fishpaws Marketplace. All three of these businesses are women-owned and -operated. The mixer is from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. The fee is $10 for members in advance and $15 for walk-ins/nonmembers. RSVP to info@severnaparkchamber.com or register online.

This year is the chamber’s 60th anniversary. We were founded in 1957 by Walter Winkelmeyer. His daughter Betty Winkelmeyer Wells still operates a business in Severna Park. As a part of the festivities this year, the chamber is holding a crab feast on September 15 at the Severna Park Elks Lodge. Tickets are $60 for members and guests in advance and $70 for nonmembers. Tickets also include fried chicken, crab soup, hot dogs, corn on the cob, potato salad, beer and soda. There will be a cash bar and music. Registration is online at www.severnaparkchamber.com and by emailing us at info@severnaparkchamber.com. Our telephone number is 410-647-3900.

For the golf enthusiasts out there, our annual Driving Force for Business Tournament at Chartwell Golf and Country Club is scheduled for October 2 (rain date October 23). It’s always a sellout event, so contact us if you’d like to play! We offer early-bird pricing through September 10.

Remember to shop local, dine local, and ABC (always buy chamber)! Contact us at info@severnaparkchamber.com, 410-647-3900, or visit us at www.severnaparkchamber.com.
