Amid all the hectic schedules, the expanding website, launching a new site for our sister publication in Pasadena, getting our digital and social media campaigns running smoothly (many thanks to Voice staffer Ellen Kinsella on that front!) and the usual day-to-day of a community newspaper, it’s easy to get lost in this business.

I was thrilled when Voice publisher Lonnie Lancione agreed to reinstitute our internship program where area high school students who are involved in journalism classes or school newspaper production can join the staff, producing stories for the paper and having a chance to learn a few things about the publishing world as they go.
This year, we have Molly McCarthy, a Severna Park High senior, and Megan Brugnoli, a SPHS junior. Though they came on late in the year, it’s exciting to see the world through their eyes, and we look forward to working with both of them throughout the rest of this school year. Molly will head off to college next fall, but we look forward to having Megan back and helping to run the crop of interns next year.
The other big news of late was our “Best Of Severna Park” survey – the results are in this issue! For a transplant like myself, it was great to get an insider’s view of the places to go in Severna Park. As we tallied up the votes, I was making special notes for myself, and had a moment or two of glee when I realized some of my favorite places were among the winners. The incredible salads at Garry’s grill were an early, and happy, discovery! And, of course I was taking note of the best hair and nail salons, a girl has to have her priorities!
The most exciting part of our “Best Of” Survey was seeing the outpouring of community involvement – Severna Park came out in force and we were amazed at the sheer numbers of responses we received! There were some pretty tight races and some real landslides. The entire office was abuzz during the counting with people asking for updates and calls of “Who’s ahead now?” bouncing around the room.
All that community spirit brings me to the next point – we want you to be involved!
With our new website, we have more ability than ever to offer coverage of community events, and we want your help! If you’ve got good quality photos of cool stuff going on, your kids’ sports team, or something like that, send it to us via email and we might just put it on our website!
With warmer weather on the horizon, everyone’s going to be getting out and about – so let us see what you’re up to!
