Editor’s Voice

Out of all the months of the year, when does our team here at the Voice usually have the best time putting the paper together? It would probably be a toss-up between June and December. But if I had to choose, I would pick June.

Oh, don’t get me wrong – there’s definitely some stress that comes with the frenzied excitement of this month. But it’s gratifying in a way that no other time of year can compete with, not even the merrymaking holiday season in December.

That’s because June means the culmination of hard work on the part of so many people and organizations in our community. Everyone is enjoying their last hurrah before people slip into vacation mode for summer. More importantly, it’s when this year’s high school seniors close the books on one chapter of their lives and head off to other great adventures.

I don’t have kids of my own (unless you count my dog), but I will admit that I join all the parents in being proud of our community’s young people – not only for what they’ve accomplished but also for who they’re proving to be, and what they hope to achieve in the years to come. I’m happy that the Voice is able to pay tribute to the end of their high school days with our coverage of proms, scholarship presentations and graduation ceremonies. As for those students themselves (because I know a few of you are reading this), go out there and continue to make us proud!

To all our community readers, as the weeks go by and we get further into summer, I ask only that you don’t forget about us here at the Voice. We want to hear from you and about how you’re spending your summer. Whether you’re a student, a professional, a volunteer, a parent, a senior, a business owner, whatever – we know that you will probably do something newsworthy at some point. Be sure to send us an email and tell us about it. Or snap a photo and shoot it our way. Maybe we’ll share it with our followers on Instagram, or maybe it will end up being a story in the next print edition. However we end up using your tip, we’ll be happy to hear from our readers. My email address is dylan@severnaparkvoice.com, and I’ll look forward to reading your news.

In the meantime, Severna Park, don’t forget to take a few moments of pause this month to really enjoy the excitement that’s always going on around us. Catch you in July!
