The Elvaton ‘Red Flash’ 11U girls lacrosse team, comprised of local 4th and 5th graders, recently finished an outstanding 2011 season with an undefeated 10-0 record, thoroughly dominating the competition. The team beat every opponent by an average of more than five goals in the Anne Arundel County Recs and Parks Middie “Spirit” Division.

Head Coach Angela Chadwick was exceptionally proud to see her team grow close as a unit while demonstrating a determined work ethic. “They built great friendships, learned how to work together and always came ready to run their hearts out,” said Chadwick.

Despite never having a size advantage over their opponents, the Elvaton girls exceeded all expectations with team-wide speed, agility, and talent. Led by the fast feet of midfielders Hunter Chadwick, Rachel Spilker, Hailey Blachly and Sarah DeMaio, the Flash played true to their name in regularly speeding past their competition. Elvaton’s defensive unit — nicknamed the “iron wall” — was made up of Camryn Levin, Leah Campbell, Lauren Breitinger, Maddie Davis, and Valerie LaMore, who collectively excelled at sliding to the shooter, playing man-to-man defense, and forcing opponents outside of the eight-meter box. Talented attack players Alaina Zborai, Katie Iliescu, Maddie Maier, Erin Lomash and Julia Roy powered the Flash’s offense with good pass-reads, movement to open spaces, and support of all shots from the back of the net. Skilled goalies Delaney Ott and Paige Gunning anchored the Flash’s defense and were described by Coach Chadwick as “fearless…never short on gut or determination…they were the heart of the team.”

The Elvaton girls’ excellent groundball play, ability to create space with quick dodges, strong shooting ability, and powerhouse speed propelled them to victory on the field, but the Flash also forged close bonds off the field throughout their successful season.

“They supported each other on and off of the field and never left the field without a big team huddle and cheer,” said Coach Chadwick. “It was truly impressive to watch these girls grow as a team and play with a love of the game.”
