FOKFP Anticipates Another Enormous Turnout For Fall Harvest Festival

Kinder Farm Park is gearing up for one of the most highly anticipated fall events in Anne Arundel County. The annual Fall Harvest Festival — held on Saturday, October 13, from 10:00am to 4:00pm — is a quintessential family fall activity.

For nearly 10 years, the festival has grown in popularity. What initially started as a simple day for local families to enjoy the park has developed into a festival drawing up to 14,000 people in attendance.

On October 13, the entire park will be decorated with fall-themed décor, ranging from pumpkins to ornate straw sculptures created by park rangers. Children will enjoy seeing cows, pigs, goats, chickens and the newly added rabbits.

Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company will be in attendance with one of its engines, and children will have the opportunity to help firefighters spray a fire hose.

Additional activities will include about 15 games such as pumpkin bowling, soccer kick, a fishing pond, and the corn cannon. Face painting, a pumpkin patch, and pumpkin painting are also available. Most games and activities can be enjoyed for only one to two tickets, which are $1 each and can be purchased at the ticket counters.

Children can also enjoy a straw maze in the barn. Children under 1 can participate for free. Hayride tickets can be purchased for $5 a person, and children under 3 are free. The hayrides will feature many of the farm’s tractors. Pony rides are available for an additional fee of $5 per child.

What is fall without the addition of a scarecrow on your front porch? Families can purchase a scarecrow kit at the festival for $12, which includes all of the clothing, facial features, and straw needed to build the perfect creation.

Additional craft opportunities include sand art, sun catchers, Lego crafts, plaster crafts, pirate patches and pixie headdresses.

Come hungry and enjoy the endless food options from savory crab cakes to delicious steak sandwiches. The Boy Scouts will sell hot dogs and hamburgers. Lighter fare such as popcorn, cookies, Kona Ice and ice cream will be available for purchase.

Get a head start on your holiday shopping with various vendor items, including children’s clothing, handmade candles, gourmet cookies, jewelry and even organic goat milk soap.

Typically, admission to the park is $6 per car. Park admission is waived for the festival and parking is free. Additional fees apply for games, activities and refreshments. Families are encouraged to bring cash to purchase tickets and items from vendors. As with all outdoor events and festivals, this event is held weather-permitting. Last year, in spite of light sprinkles, the event went off without a hitch. Attendees are encouraged to check www.kinderfarmpark.org prior to the event for up-to-date information regarding weather accommodations.

Funds raised through the festival go directly back to Friends of Kinder Farm Park to support the events and operations of the farm.

Volunteers are always needed. Middle and high school children can receive community service hours through volunteering. For more information about the festival or to sign up to volunteer, visit www.kinderfarmpark.org.
