Green Hornets 12U Girls Win Gettysburg Cup

A group of rising soccer stars represented Severna Park in championship fashion over Memorial Day weekend as the Green Hornets U12 Venom girls soccer team defeated Lebanon Valley 2-1 in the championship game of the Gettysburg Blue Grey Cup tournament.

The Venom, who are Parker Collins, Maddie Sullivan, Ally Williams, Pela Saunders, Abby Crowley, Lizzie Groseclose, Sally Reed, Amelia Goger, Lacey Toth, Annie Gage, Bella Liberto, Jessica Alden and Becca Widmer, got goals from Sullivan and Williams in the tournament final and outstanding goalkeeping by Saunders in both the semifinal and final to win the cup. The back line defense of Liberto, Alden and Gage were stellar in holding Lebanon Valley to a single goal to get the championship win, which avenged Severna Park’s loss to Lebanon Valley earlier in the tournament.

The Venom went 5-1 overall on the weekend in winning the championship.

“Our championship win at the Gettysburg tourney was the capstone of a successful spring season,” said head coach Dan Gage, who coached the team with assistant coach Douglas Toth.

The Venom also made the final of a preseason tournament in Delaware before launching into its 9-on-9 Eastern Development Program season. The team will move into 11-on-11 play with an expanded roster in the EDP this fall.
