Green Hornets cheerleaders of all age levels had a successful fall season, and three teams competed for Severna Park and performed well in a pair of regional competitions.

The 6U/8U Bumblebees, 10U Honeybees and 12U/14U Stingers all represented Severna Park proudly at the Kick Off Classic meet in October as well as the Retro Rock cheerleading competition in November.

After a second-place finish in October, the 6U/8U Bumblebees came back to take first place at the Retro Rock meet in November. The Green Hornets Bumblebees are Addalynn Chapman, Alice Collins, Charlotte Degnan, Akari Duncan, Olivia Gardner, Audrey Jenkins, Katherine Kelly, Kaylee Kendle, Sophia Lebowitz, Reese Reineck, Kendall Rhames, Khloe Rhames, Paige Shushan, Lyla Stohler and Piper Welch, and the team is coached by Carol Collins, Bridget Kelly, Nicole Reineck and Mary Seeley.

“I am so proud of these girls! They worked so hard and they learned so much, and they were such a fun group to work with,” said coach Collins, who is the interim Green Hornets cheerleading commissioner. “This younger age group always has a lot of new athletes, and it was incredible to watch as they learned and grew and fell in love with the sport.”

The 10U Honeybees team of Rachael Blizzard, Kayla Camacho, Cailyn Cortez, Miley Fitchet, Kenzie Glasgow, Skylar Greenleaf, Lilly Hittle, Gabriella James, Sophia Listman, Allison Moran, Cassidy Morris and Madelyn Suhar took runner-up at both meets. The Honeybees are coached by Hailey Dove, Muntana Hittle, Lindsay Morris and Michelle Comacho.

Coach Dove said the organization was welcomed her as a new coach, and the athletes rounded into form and grew in confidence as the season went on.

“Being a new coach to this organization, I came in very nervous about this season, but these girls welcomed me with warm arms, and it couldn’t have felt more like home,” said Dove. “They worked so incredibly hard this season and I am so proud of them. I am looking forward to the future with the Green Hornets! The parents are amazing and my assistant coaches rocked it. I am forever grateful for this team! They will always have a special spot in my heart!”

The Stingers improved from a third-place finish in October to win the Retro Rock meet in November. The Stingers cheerleaders are Abigail Chase, Megan Dottellis, Isabella Fellows, Victoria Gardner, Jenevieve Ghahhari, Savannah Gibson, Kaylie Greenleaf, Sophia Leon, Truleigh Monroe, Riley Morris, Kelly Moy, Brooke Pastine and Alexis Puckett, and the team is coached by Bridget Jacobs, Jamie Nelson, Wendy Greenleaf and April Morris. In addition to taking first place at the Retro Rock, the Stingers also won the Best Tumbling team award.

Coach Nelson extolled the focus of the Stingers for their successful end to the season.

“I was amazed by this hardworking group of girls!” said Nelson, saying the team went through late struggles with synching its routine before coming together when it was time to perform. “They then had only three practices to clean it up before going into our next competition, and they nailed it, bringing home a first-place trophy! They made us coaches and parents very proud!”

Interim commissioner Collins praised the efforts of the parents and families that helped ensure a successful year for the cheerleaders.

“The group of volunteers we had this season was incredible,” said Collins. “They each put in so much time and effort to make sure this was a great season for our athletes, and it really paid off. It was such a privilege to work with such dedicated women, and I’m so grateful to all of them.”
