Green Hornets 12U baseball players got a final chance to showcase their skills and enjoy some top competition in the annual Majors Green vs. Gold All-Star game.

An early pitching duel turned into punch-for-punch offensive battle late as Green defeated Gold 7-5.

The Green All-Stars drew from the Majors Cubs, Mariners and Orioles and comprised players Logan Bal, Donovan Booker, Aaron Bramble, Charlie Butler, Kiefer Chandler, Dylan Fenn, Darson Haney, Nathan Kohler, Chase Meyer, Ty Miller, Vince Nguyen and Matthew Smith as well as head coach Jim Miller and assistant coaches Paul Fenn and Albert Whitlock.

The Gold All-Stars drew from the Pirates, Red Sox and White Sox and comprised players Andrew Poling, Mason Keegan, Zach Majewski, Joshua Hong, Liam Turner, Kevin Bowles, Aiden McCaughey, Ryan Crowley, James O’Connor, Zach Leizear, Matthew Price and Galen Richardson, head coach Joe Poling and assistant coaches Chris Richardson and Matthew McCaughey.

An intense competition of the league’s top players during the game gave way to a show of camaraderie afterward as the teams took pictures together and celebrated their joint accomplishment.

“Both teams showed tremendous heart and the sportsmanship of true winners,” said Gold coach Joe Poling. “Each player represented all of the good qualities of the game today and how it should be played. It was an honor to coach them and to be a part of such a memorable experience in their lives.”

Green coach Jim Miller expressed similar sentiments about the character and integrity the boys displayed while getting a chance to play and compete as the age group’s elite.

“As a coach, it is always an honor to share the diamond with the best of the best,” said Miller. “This game showcases the hard work and commitment that these players put in all season to become the best they can be at this game. Several parents approached our staff after the game and said that it was the best youth baseball game they have ever been a part of. That shows that the SP program, coaches and players are doing things right. Aside from the excellent baseball displayed that night, the sportsmanship and respect between the two teams was impressive and inspiring. The kids realized it was not about the outcome, but about the journey of the experience.”
