I Have My DNA Results. What’s Next?

The Anne Arundel Genealogical Society will present “I Have My DNA Results - What's Next?” with guest speaker Tom McCarriar on October 11 from 7:00pm to 9:30pm at Severna Park United Methodist Church at 731 Benfield Road.

You've had your DNA tested, but you don't really understand what the results mean. Or maybe you're just overwhelmed by your sheer number of matches and don’t know where to start. McCarriar’s presentation will help you understand your DNA results and provide suggestions for how to identify and analyze your matches that are most likely to be genealogically relevant. The session will focus on autosomal DNA but may discuss Y and mitochondrial DNA if time permits.

McCarriar started doing genealogy research about 20 years ago. He has traced his McCarragher family from its emigration from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, in 1814, through New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, to its arrival in Baltimore in about 1830. He is also researching his mother’s family in Georgia and his paternal grandmother’s family in Adams County, Pennsylvania.

In his spare time, McCarriar is newsletter editor, web manager and publications chair of the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society. He also volunteers at the Maryland Archives, helping FamilySearch photograph Maryland probate records that will eventually be available online.
