Senior forward Maddie Keating tallied 16 points and ten rebounds to lead the host Severna Park girls’ basketball team to a decisive 70-20 rout over Chesapeake High in early January. The Lady Falcons established a 13-point lead in the first quarter, and continued to widen the gap with double-digit scoring in every quarter.
The balanced offense featured scoring from Mikayla Jerkins, who chipped in 13 points, Claire Hanratty with 10, Hannah Carroll with 9 and Dani Cox with 6. Laura Patterson and Paige Briganti put up four apiece, Olivia Tubaya and Christine Leidner added three, and Erin Crowley chipped in two.
The win was the third for the pesky Falcons who started the season with four close losses to Arundel, South River, St. Mary’s of Annapolis and Joppatowne.
Eager to turn the season around the Falcons turned up the heat to squeak out their first victory of the season against Southern, 55-53, before they clinched their second win, 62-35, over Northeast. The win came off the heels of a three-game road stint that included two back-to-back losses.
