Lanham Departing As Severna Park Athletic Director

Severna Park Athletic Director Dave Lanham made it known publicly on May 14 that he will be leaving Severna Park High School at the end of this school year.

“The Severna Park community, the student-athletes here, the coaches, the staff, the administration, it’s a great place to be, and I’m going to be sad to go,” Lanham said.

Lanham will be moving to South Florida and is looking forward to career opportunities in athletic administration.

Lanham has been at Severna Park as Athletic Director since the summer of 2014. He began his career in athletics administration as the assistant AD at Archbishop Spalding before serving as the AD for six years at St. Mary’s and six years at Meade, and he also was the varsity baseball coach at all three schools. He came to Severna Park in 2014 and managed the logistical challenge of overseeing the athletic programs throughout the school’s new construction. He was named the District V Athletic Director of the Year in 2015 and the MPSSAA State Athletic Director of the Year for 2016.

He said he is proud of the job that he did at Severna Park, where the years-long construction presented a unique challenge.

“I like to think that I’ll be leaving Severna Park as good a place as I found it,” Lanham said. “I’m very proud of overseeing the athletic part of the new construction here. Everything is completely finished now, from the gym to the turf fields to the press box, the stands. It’s turnkey now. I feel good from that perspective to turn it over to someone else like that. It’s a wonderful place to be.”

Anne Arundel County Director of Athletics Clayton Culp praised Lanham’s work ethic and initiative in his over two decades working in the county.

“Mr. Lanham has been a highly effective, supportive, and engaged leader at multiple high schools in our county over many years,” said Culp. “I am honored to have worked closely with him on many athletic issues, initiatives, and programs that support student-athletes. It has been a real pleasure to observe the positive impact he has had on the athletic departments and communities at Meade and Severna Park high schools. Our office wishes Dave and his family all the best as they embark on a new chapter.”
