The Severna Park Lasers U-10 select girls soccer team took first place in the premier division in the 22nd annual Mountain Road Soccer Tournament, November 20-21.

“It was a strong showing for the Green Hornet soccer program,” said assistant coach Joe LaMore. “We got to the championship game only to face another Green Hornets select soccer team, the U-10 Severna Park Strikers, and it was a fun opportunity for the players on the two teams, who are friends and often practice together, to play against each other for a title. The players sat together both before and after the game, but once the whistle blew the competition was intense.”
For the Lasers and Strikers, the title game was a rematch. For the Lasers, however, it was an opportunity for redemption, having suffered their only tournament loss to the Strikers just a few hours before in a preliminary game.
With the championship on the line, the Lasers pulled it together and squeaked out a hard-fought 2-0 victory. Valerie LaMore, Hunter Chadwick, Lauren Carlson, Camryn Levin, Rachel Spilker, Leah Campbell, Julia Ryan, Samantha Cremmins, Sara Davis, Shannon Farrell and Tori Bates all contributed to the Laser’s title win, in what would be the final tournament of the fall season.
During the two day event, both the Lasers and Strikers took on the Mountain Road Madness and the Catonsville Cobras, competing in the premier U10 division.
“Given the first place finish of our team, and the second place finish of the Strikers, coach Mike Carlson and I are very optimistic about the future of the Green Hornets U10 program,” said LaMore.
Both teams will participate as select Green Hornet teams this spring, along with the girls U-10 Storm, coached by Kory Barrett.
