Ledo Pizza Continues To Focus On Quality And Community

In 1998, Martin Gorman started down an unexpected path. After working in the IT industry for several years in Chicago and then outside of Washington D.C., he purchased a Ledo Pizza in Severna Park.

More than 20 years later, he has established himself - and Ledo Pizza - as a staple of the local community.

“This was an existing location; it was just smaller and not performing up to potential,” Gorman explained. “So we basically doubled the capacity.”

Since then, he has built new locations in Pasadena, Bel Air and Millersville — each from the ground up. Every step of the way, Gorman has been focused on quality. Everything that comes out of a Ledo kitchen is made fresh, something that he believes truly separates them from any competitor.

“We make everything by hand, which is a lot different than almost everyone else. We roll every pizza individually. It gets topped by hand. We grade our own cheese. Nothing is coming out of the freezer and going onto our pizzas,” Gorman said.

He is just as committed to the local communities as he is to quality food and service.

“We are dedicated to supporting the schools and value being an active member of the community,” he said. “We are constantly doing fundraisers and give back 20% of sales to the teams or schools. Last year, we gave back about $40,000 between three locations, and that’s real money going directly to teams, PTAs or boosters.”

The relationship with area schools continues to evolve and grow as well. Ledo is now a scoreboard sponsor at the new Severna Park High School stadium, and the boosters will sell Ledo pizza during every home game and at other events this year.

“We’ll provide them with all of the product and training on preparing the cheese or pepperoni pizzas,” Gorman said. “They’ll have that for the fans for every home game, which will help generate funds directly for the boosters of the school.”

Although Ledo has been making pizzas since 1955, the company is constantly working with its menu committee and corporate chef in Annapolis to develop new items for customers. This month, Ledo is launching a new menu as well as a few new features for folks on the go.

“We’re going to have some new craft specialty pizzas coming out, new salads, and we’re also going to be launching a grab-and-go limited menu that will be in the cooler ready to go,” Gorman said. “It will be freshly prepared entrees for two, like lasagna, chicken-parm or pizza that will all be made fresh throughout the day.”
