Lily Maddox Earns First Fight For Phoebe Scholarship

Posted

Fight For Phoebe Inc. has awarded its 2019 scholarship to Lily Maddox, a 2019 graduate of Severna Park High School who is attending Loyola Marymount University, where she will study veterinary medicine.

Maddox was a natural choice for the award, having graduated magna cum laude from SPHS and having been selected to University of Pennsylvania’s prestigious weeklong Veterinary Exploration Through Science program. She’s also passionate about ecology and environmental conservation, and would one day like to travel to South Africa to treat rhinos that have fallen victim to horn poaching.

Fight for Phoebe was formed in memory of Phoebe Jeong-Hui Ward. Phoebe was 8 years old when she was diagnosed with HLH (hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis), a rare and life-threatening autoimmune disorder. Fight for Phoebe Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping local people and families with HLH and other orphan diseases through advocacy, education and research.
