The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Anne Arundel County is hosting its inaugural NAMI Mental Health Gala for Anne Arundel County on Saturday, October 6, from 6:30pm to 11:00pm at Crowne Plaza Annapolis Hotel. With a theme of “You Are Not Alone,” the gala’s purpose is to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of mental illness. Tickets are $75 and include an evening of dinner, awards, music and dancing.

NAMI AAC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and its mission is improving the quality of life of individuals affected by mental illness and to provide support for their families, friends and caregivers. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support and training for all Anne Arundel County residents for free. The nonprofit has weekly support groups for both the person with the mental illness and for the family caregivers. Its support groups are overflowing with more people each week seeking help. It conducts a 12-week family-to-family training course in the spring and fall of each year to learn all about the mental illnesses, the brain, communications skills, empathy, medicines, psychiatry/psychology, and other topics.
