Introducing Visual Harmony: Visual Art Interprets Performing Art

Chaney and Martino Galleries

Presented in partnership with Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) and Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. This juried exhibition, juried by Artist and Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan, celebrates the overlap between visual and performing art. From Degas to Pollack, visual artists have both represented and been motivated by the performing arts. Whether depicting dancers, listening to jazz while painting, or creating sets or costumes for a play – all arts are important and inspiring.

Frederick Douglass 200 Creative Arts Competition Exhibition

Openshaw Balcony Gallery

2018 marked the “Year of Frederick Douglass” in Maryland, and what better way to celebrate his life than through student voices and creative expression! Anne Arundel County students were invited to research Douglass and create artwork - visual, written, and digital - inspired by hid life. Last Fall a celebration was held at the Chesapeake Arts Center to award the winners and celebrate the participants. Maryland Hall is fortunate to collaborate with AACPS, the students and sponsors to display the work from the competition in our Openshaw Balcony Gallery.
