New Staff Joins the Voice

There have been some changes to the masthead here at the paper; there are new faces in the office as well. The Voice is proud to welcome Editor Rochelle Karina and Assistant Editor Hayley Gable.
Rochelle Karina spent the last year on our freelance staff before stepping into the editor’s chair in November. She’s originally from San Diego and moved to Maryland in 2009, just in time for Snowmageddon. Karina has a long background in publishing, starting with her high school newspaper and literary magazine, and continuing through college and later as Managing Editor for FMG Publications, publishers of Guns Magazine, American Handgunner, Shooting Industry and American COP, as well as Arts and Activities and Expression. She is a graduate of Sacramento West School of Art and has over 20 years experience as a freelance writer covering everything from politics and religion to arts reviews and even humor.
“I’m so excited to have joined the full-time staff at The Voice,” Karina says, “I fell in love with this community when I first started writing for the paper a year ago, there is such heart here, so many wonderful people and everyone has been very welcoming.”

“We have a terrific staff here at The Voice,” Karina continued. “I’m proud, and honored, to be here. We truly have a tight-knit team, from our publishers Dianna and Lonnie Lancione, to our graphic design crew and our sales staff – this is like a family. I’m blessed to step into a position where the freelance staff is full of talented writers and photographers, all who have a passion for the community, who live and work here, and who understand what the paper is about.”
Hayley Gable, a lifelong resident of Pasadena, has been writing for The Pasadena Voice since its formation in February 2009. Prior to joining The Voice as Assistant Editor in November, she was the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for GableSigns and Graphics, her family’s Pasadena-based business. Gable, a graduate of Stevenson University’s Business Communications curriculum, is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Professional Writing at Towson University.
While at Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College), Gable wrote for the University’s newspaper, The Villager, and completed an array of internships, including those at Clear Channel Communications and Girls’ Life Magazine.
“No doubt about it, Pasadena is in my roots. My parents met as students at Chesapeake High School; I grew up playing field hockey and softball for both Lake Shore and Riviera Beach, and, of course, boating out to Dobbins Island in the summer with my family is a tradition,” she said. “To now be a part of the community in this way is just a complete and total thrill,” added Gable.
“We have such a great, close-knit and talented staff here at The Voice,” she stated. “It’s amazing how much goes into each and every issue, both from the general community and also from our office and freelance staff. The level of enthusiasm people have for Pasadena is just incomparable. I’m so proud to be serving the community where I grew up this way,” she concluded.
Join The Voice in welcoming these two new additions aboard and be sure to contact them regarding any future editorial concerns or with your story ideas.
