Severn River Divers End Season On High Note

The Severn River Sharks Dive Team capped another successful season in the Central Maryland Diving League with outstanding showings at two important end-of-season dive meets held in July. On July 17, Severn River divers competed at the James Dunleavy Invitational Novice Meet, and on July 31, the Sharks had several standout performers at the CMDL Championships.

The James Dunleavy Invitational on July 17 at Five Oaks Swim Club in Catonsville saw Severn River divers in all age brackets perform well, including several 1st place finishes. For the 8U Girls, Kacey Hopkins took 2nd and Peyton Sullivan 3rd. Sarah Adams and Elizabeth Morris finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the 9-10 Girls division, and Eric Lindsay took 3rd place in the 9-10 Boys competition. In the 11-12 Girls division, Leah Swan took 3rd place and Grace Adams received Honorable Mention. For the 11-12 Boys, Davis Cook took 3rd place. Emma Adams received Honorable Mention in the 13-14 Girls competition. Finally, Ryan Tiffany took 1st place in the 15-18 Boys competition.

Competing at the Central Maryland Dive League Championships on July 31 at West Howard Swim Club in Mt. Airy were divers from the 13 teams in the league who had achieved at least two qualifying scores at meets during the regular season were eligible to compete. Severn River Divers took first place in five age brackets at the CMDL Championships.

In the 8U Boys competition, 1st place went to Rhett Hopkins. Ronni Binstock and Rose Ringleton finished 1st and 2nd place respectively in the 9-10 Girls competition, and Matthew Bateman took 1st place amongst 9-10 Boys. Laura Milleker took 1st place among 11-12 Girls, with Ginger Ellis receiving Honorable Mention. Paul Kalafos took 1st place in the 13-14 Boys division. Ellie Milleker finished 4th in the 15-18 Girls bracket.

Other notables: Ronni Binstock set a new pool, team, and CMDL league record for 9-10 Girls with a score of 133.80 in a home meet against Padonia on July 21. Clifford Jamieson was recognized with the Ruth L. Smith Award for demonstrating dedication, tenacity, loyalty, and a general love of the sport of diving.
