Severn River Rugby Honors Fallen Frederick Rugger In Triebel Cup

Posted

The Severn River Rugby club took part in an annual tradition on June 8 by playing the Triebel Cup matches against Frederick Rugby Club.

The Triebel Cup is held in honor of Tobin Triebel, a Frederick Rugby Club player and Maryland State Trooper who died at age 39 in a road accident in 2008 in North Carolina.

Severn River Rugby hosted this year’s event, which has been held for over 10 years in honor of Triebel. The Cup is awarded to whichever club performs best out of all matches; this year, the U19 men, men’s, women’s and Old Boys teams played, with Severn River retaining the Cup by winning the men’s and women’s matches and securing the Cup on point differential across all four matches.

A ceremony was held before play began, and the Maryland Color Guard performed the national anthem before the men’s afternoon match.
