In preparation for next fall, Severn School’s director of athletics Julian Domenech recently announced the hiring of Chris Kirchenheiter as the new head football coach. Kirchenheiter, a Severna Park resident, has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Severna Park High School, and before that 10 seasons coaching with the Green Hornets organization.

Kirchenheiter is primed for the position. He played football at his alma mater Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA, before going on to study as a graduate assistant at the University of North Carolina at  Chapel Hill. He then took a job at Lake Braddock High School in Fairfax, VA, where he spent five years teaching math and coaching football.

“Coaching at Severn is a unique opportunity,” Kirchenheiter said. “The school has amazing facilities, a supportive administration and most importantly, quality student athletes who represent themselves and their school the right way. I am excited about the chance to work with the football team and hope to return Severn to its long tradition as a winning football program.”

During the 2010-2011 season, the Admirals went 1-9 amassing a disappointing string of losses that included three shutouts. The team’s only win was an 18-0 victory at home over St. Frances in week nine.

Under Kirchenheiter’s reign last season, the 11U Green Hornets football team went 9-0.
