Severna Park Lanes Raises Thousands At Strike Out Cancer Event

Posted
While Severna Park Lanes has been active in the community before, the business recently held a unique event, Strike Out Cancer, which raised $10,250 during its three-hour run time. Specifically, the funds are going toward fighting colorectal cancer, a cause personal to Severna Park Lanes owner Mike Hall.

“We’re a community-based business,” Hall said. “This has a personal connection to me, but also to anybody fighting cancer. We must find cures for all types of cancers that are affecting people every day. This is just one small step in making people aware of a cancer that can be prevented or treated if found early enough.”

The funds were raised through the sale of tickets, which cost $50 and were sold both in advance and at the door. Another option was VIP meet-and-greet tickets, which cost $75, an opportunity limited to 30 people. The ticket prices included entertainment, bowling and refreshments.

A silent auction at the event raised proceeds for the Fight Colorectal Cancer organization. One of the silent auction items, donated by Stacey Cassidy of Savvy Consignment, sold for more than $2,000.

The main event, however, was a performance by Nashville recording artist Craig Campbell, who is a spokesperson for the Cancer Research Center. Case & Barley Country Band, which is managed by Hall, opened for Campbell.

An estimated 100 people attended the Strike Out Cancer event. “We have big plans for it to be even bigger and better next year,” Hall said.

Part of the event’s success is attributed to its donors, Hall said. Outback of Annapolis catered the fundraiser, and many other local organizations donated and sponsored: Buck Distributing, DM Distributing Company, Katcef Brothers, Port Tack Wine & Spirits, Savvy Consignment, Great American Car Wash, Mother’s Peninsula Grille, Cafe Mezzanotte, the National Zoo, Pampered Chef and Goska’s Liquors.

Larry Sells from the Severna Park Voice served as the emcee for the event. Severna Park Lanes general manager Curt Pezzano and manager Donna Tilman also helped coordinate Strike Out Cancer, along with the rest of the staff at Severna Park Lanes.

“We owe it to everybody else that donated to the cause, and especially to the people that came out to support and donated online,” Hall said.

Severna Park Lanes is active in the community through its many sponsorships and philanthropic events.

“We do all kinds of things throughout the year for organizations, whether they come to us or we come to them,” Hall said.

Severna Park Lanes is located at 840 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.
