Small But Connected Cypress Landing Is Perfect For Family Living

Posted

If you’re speeding south on Ritchie Highway, just past the intersection of Earleigh Heights and Route 2, you’ll probably miss the stately community of Cypress Landing. With just a single road into the cul-de-sac neighborhood, Cypress Landing is only 55 homes on Woodbent Drive, Cypress Ridge Drive, Crossover Court and Vineberry Court. The entrance takes a deep dip, nestling the community far below the hustle and bustle of Ritchie Highway.

The residences are primarily brick traditional homes built in the late 1990s. The community backs up to the Baltimore-Annapolis Trail to make biking and dog-walking a breeze. The quiet cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets are perfect for family movie nights, Halloween and Easter parties and even community yards sales.

The community is zoned for Oak Hill Elementary School, and Severna Park middle and high schools.

Sharon Burke
Resident for 16 Years

Sharon Burke grew up in Annapolis and chose to move to Severna Park with her young family in 2002 to take advantage of the community’s stellar public schools.

“We looked at many houses, and this particular house had everything we were looking for,” said Sharon. “Severna Park is special because of the strong sense of community. I am very involved with the Falcon Athletic Boosters at the high school and have met some really great folks over the years.”

Sharon’s husband, Kelly, is also involved in Severna Park High School athletics as an assistant coach for the 2018 4A state championship Lady Falcons’ softball team. Both Sharon and Kelly are volunteers with the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association’s Green Hornets leagues.

Kristen Crino
Resident for Nine Years

Scott and Kristen Crino started looking for homes in the Crofton area after Scott was assigned to Fort Meade in 2009. After researching schools, the Crinos decided to look in Severna Park, and ultimately narrowed their search to two homes in Cypress Landing.

“What I loved most about the neighborhood was the B&A Trail access path from the neighborhood, the surrounding woods, and the size of the community,” said Kristen, who serves as secretary on the community homeowners association board. “Our family uses the trail for exercise and as an alternate means of transportation to the library, Rita’s, the Big Bean, or the grocery store. I walk my dogs on it daily. My oldest son worked at Cakes and Confections for three years and always biked to work using the trail. The trail is a wonderful asset to Severna Park and a big draw for us to Cypress Landing.

“There are great families living here, and we have sidewalks when a lot of neighborhoods in Severna Park don’t,” added Kristen. “Also, there is only one way in and one way out, which keeps traffic flow very low.”

Kristen said she feels Severna Park is special because of the people and the schools.

“The neighbors make this community what it is. They are friendly, helpful and willing to help anytime,” said Kristen. “There are a lot of families with young kids that are outside playing a lot and because we don’t get any drive-through traffic, it’s very safe for them to play. It’s a great thing to see kids playing outdoors.”

Mary Jo Meilstrup
Severna Park Native, Resident for Three Years

Mary Jo Meilstrup grew up in the Fair Oaks neighborhood of Severna Park. After moving several times over the last 20 years, she and her Coast Guard husband moved into Cypress Landing three years ago after he was assigned to Curtis Bay.

“We chose Cypress Landing because it’s a rather small, lovely neighborhood with lots of kids of all ages,” said Mary Jo. “We like the easy access to the B&A Trail with shopping within walking distance, and also easy access to Route 2.”

Two decades may seem like a long time, but for Mary Jo, it’s as if she never left Severna Park.

“Some of my childhood friends are still here in Severna Park,” added Mary Jo. “Severna Park has changed a lot in 20 years, but mostly, it’s exactly the same place I grew up. It’s hardly changed at all.”
