The Archbishop Spalding ladies swim team finished fourth at the National Catholic High School Championship Meet held at Villanova and LaSalle Universities in Philadelphia, PA.

Leading the way for the Cavaliers were sophomore Deanna Parsons, who finished first in the 100-meter butterfly and third in the 200-meter Individual Medley, and Sophomore Caroline Hamilton, who finished third in both the 200-meter freestyle and the 500-meter freestyle races. Freshman Kellianne Venit swam her way to a pair of eighth place finishes in both the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter freestyle events.

The Cavalier relay teams also competed well. The 400-meter free relay team of Caroline Hamilton, Kellianne Venit, Lauren Marsden and Deanna Parsons finished third, and set a school record in the process. Also competing for the Cavs, both the 200-meter medley relay team of Alexandra Bowman, Deanna Parsons, Caroline Hamilton and Kellianne Venit, and the 200-meter free relay team of Allison Atkinson, Erin Kane, Nicki Schult and Lauren Marsden finished eighth in each of their events.

At the meet, head coach Kristen Koehler was named Female Coach Of The Year.

“It is an award I am shocked and honored to receive,” said Koehler. “It is a result of how well the team swam. This is the best Spalding has ever done at this very prestigious meet.”
