The Law Office Of David V. Diggs Helps Families Navigate Life’s Hardships

While representing clients in custody disputes, civil lawsuits and other challenging cases, David Diggs often finds that he is not only an attorney to his clients but also their advocate and friend.

“Most folks who come to me for family law representation are probably having their greatest personal crisis,” said Diggs, who has practiced law for 31 years. “Most of them rally … and I talk to them about the light at the end of the tunnel.”

At the Law Office of David V. Diggs in Millersville, Diggs and three paralegals focus on hard work as well as compassion. That desire to help others was the motivation that led Diggs to graduate from the University Of Maryland School Of Law in 1986 after originally studying political science.

“It sounds cliché, but I wanted to get into a rewarding profession and to help people,” Diggs said.

Family law includes issues like adoption and custody disputes, visitation and divorce actions. Diggs is trained in the mediation of family law disputes and serves as a mediator for the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.

Diggs also handles torts, or legal wrongs, from auto accidents to false arrests to trips, slips, falls and nursing home injuries.

“Whether it’s careless doctors, greedy insurance companies or too-big-to-fail corporations, I represent the little guy against those entities,” Diggs explained.

As an attorney at a small law firm, Diggs might be considered one of the little guys. By choosing a small firm instead of a big one, clients get the most cost-effective option, Diggs said.

“The folks who benefit from having two or three people at the table are usually the members of the law firm, but I’ll let them decide that,” he said.

Diggs likes working in Millersville because it’s near Severna Park, which he calls home. “That’s why I can go to bed with a smile on my face, because I represent my neighbors,” he said.

Active in the community, Diggs has coached youth sports since 1991. He coaches girls soccer, basketball and lacrosse for the Green Hornets and previously coached in Pasadena for the Buccaneers Athletic Club, Lake Shore Baseball and Pasadena Baseball Club.

“It’s mentoring, it’s hanging out with the kids, and it’s running around on the fields,” Diggs said of his affinity for coaching youth sports.

He also mentors aspiring lawyers. Diggs is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Bar Association of Baltimore City, the Anne Arundel County Bar Association and the Prince George’s County Bar Association.

Diggs is also a longtime member and immediate past president of Maryland Association for Justice, and he is a past president of the American Association for Justice’s Council of Presidents.

Asked about the future of his law practice, Diggs said, “We’re staying here. We want to keep growing and helping folks.”
