We Want Anne Arundel To Be The Best Place

County Executive

On December 3, I took the oath of office to be your county executive. That oath represents my commitment to you.

I want to thank county voters for sharing my vision and putting your trust in me to lead. Serving as county executive is an incredible honor – and a tremendous responsibility.

Throughout the campaign, we focused on a responsive government committed to transparency and community engagement. Since the day following the election, I have worked to bring that focus into reality in this administration.

We formed a transition team of highly experienced individuals with a vast knowledge of the county, its key issues and knowhow to get things done. These individuals have volunteered to help me follow through with my promises from the campaign. Our transition teams are full of talent and include people from all walks of life. We have Democrats and Republicans, urban folks and rural folks, environmentalists and developers, retired government officials and new up-and-comers with fresh ideas.

The transition is built on the same framework on which I based my campaign: with a focus on communities. Our transition teams are structured around making our communities safe, healthy, empowered, thriving, educated and sustainable. I tapped two veteran county government officials to be transition co-chairs, former County Executive Janet Owens and former Councilmember Chris Trumbauer.

If you attended the inauguration or read my speech, you know I have ambitious plans. Working with our transition leadership, we have begun to assemble an incredible team that will help to organize our plans and coordinate the steps to reach our goals. We want Anne Arundel County to be, simply, “the best place.” And we’re going to need the best people to help us get there.

I would like to thank Chief of Staff Jennifer Purcell and Chief Administrative Officer Benjamin Birge for guiding us through this transition and creating the solid foundation we will need to follow our vision.

A centerpiece of my administration will be public and community engagement. I encourage county residents to get to know their representative from our community liaison team. This team will help residents learn about the resources, services and programs that are available through our county agencies and community partners.

We have a lot of work to do, but I would like to take this time to focus on this special time of year and what it means. The holidays are a time for gathering with family and friends, a time of giving to our loved ones and those less fortunate, and a time to reminisce about cherished memories we have experienced over the years. We celebrate our faith, our love and our tradition.

During this holiday season, I will reflect on the many people who helped me become the county’s 10th county executive and look forward to the many tasks before my new administration. I am both thankful and excited.

I wish all of you a very happy, healthy and fortunate holiday season.

Steuart Pittman, County Executive
