Wright Orthodontics Strives To Make Patients Smile

Go to several different orthodontists for a consultation, and you’ll likely leave with several different ways to get from point A to point B on the journey of achieving a charming, healthy, aesthetically pleasing smile. For Dr. Ben Wright of Wright Orthodontics, the best option is all about providing an experience that is effective and efficient while still being in the best interest of the patient, all by combining the progress of modern technology with the tradition of personalized service.

“My goal has been mainly to focus on the patient and provide them with the best orthodontic experience,” he said. “I’m really invested in the technology side, which allows me to get the best results for the patient as quickly as possible and as comfortably as possible.”

Wright has been serving orthodontia patients in the Severna Park area since 2002, when he bought the practice from Dr. Arnold Zaks. Before that, Wright had served as chief of staff for the orthodontic department in advanced education in general dentistry residency at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.

The Pittsburgh native wasn’t too particular about where he settled down, but he knew he wanted a practice somewhere in the Northeast so that he could be close to home. When he met Zaks, it was a perfect fit. “I was looking for an opportunity where I could buy a practice from a senior orthodontist who was looking to retire,” he explained. “I couldn’t have been more fortunate than to have met Dr. Zaks and, over time, turn it into my own vision.”

Today, Wright runs his practice with a team of six experienced, certified staff members, including his wife, Melissa, who serves as the office’s patient liaison. One of his orthodontic associates, Elke, has been with the practice for 35 years. “We have a very experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated team,” he said. “That’s important for me, as the orthodontist, that my team is happy and focused and able to deliver the best care.”

Wright is especially proud of his practice’s new office on Jumpers Hole Road, which expands upon the success he and his team established at their former location on Ritchie Highway. “The move was a good opportunity,” Wright said. “It has allowed me to invest in providing the best technology for our patients.”

With the custom-designed office, Wright and his team take advantage of 3-D-capable X-rays, 3-D printers and other advances. “Better technology means a better experience,” Wright said.

Wright also makes an effort to give back to the community whenever he can, particularly if the cause is related to schools or youth development. “I’m always looking for opportunities to give back to the community because that’s an important part of owning a business,” Wright said.

In the years ahead, Wright plans to keep his practice at the forefront of orthodontics. As a doctor who values continuing education — Wright underwent specialty training and rigorous testing to become certified by the American Board of Orthodontics shortly after taking leadership of his practice — he wants to equip his team with the latest knowledge as well as the latest technology. He foresees 3-D computer models and 3-D printing will be a big part of providing more and better options for patients. “Moving forward, that will help us cut treatment time and optimize results,” he said. “That’s where orthodontics is going, and that’s where my focus is. Ultimately, having a smile you’re comfortable and confident with is important, and it’s important for your long-term dental health.”

Wright Orthodontics is located at 479 Jumpers Hole Road, Suite 203, in Severna Park. The practice also maintains an office in Chestertown at 111 Calvert Street. For more information, visit www.orthowright.com.
