On Sunday, November 9, all are invited to take part in “A New Creation,” a hymn festival sponsored by the Annapolis Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Slated for 3:00pm at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, the celebratory event will be led by a choir comprising members of 10 area church choirs and directed by Daniel Aune, professor of organ at Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Festival attendees can look forward to singing hymns together including “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,” “This Is My Father’s World,” “We’re Marching To Zion,” and “Now Thank We All Our God.” “Sing with All the Saints in Glory” will be sung to a newer tune composed by William Bradley Roberts, former instructor of church music at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia.
The choir will perform several anthems as well: “Deep River” by Christopher Schroeder, “Look at the World” by John Rutter, and “Coronation” by Craig Courtney.
Participating churches include St. Martin’s-in-the-Field Episcopal Church, Severna Park United Methodist Church, Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church, and several others in Annapolis, Davidsonville and Bowie. A free-will offering will be received at the event.
Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church is located at 611 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Severna Park. For more information about the event, go to www.annapolisago.org/events.
