American Legion Baseball Returns To Severna Park

Posted

After COVID canceled the 2020 season, Severna Park American Legion Post 175, working with the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association (Green Hornets), took the field with both senior (19U) and junior (17U) teams this summer.

The senior team, coached by Jim Christy, started the season losing a heartbreaking, extra innings pitching duel to St. Mary’s Post 255 from Southern Maryland. St. Mary’s went on to win the American Legion Maryland state championship in July.

Although they didn’t make the playoffs this year, Post 175 finished the season winning five of the last seven games, and coaches hope the momentum rolls into the 2022 season.

Players included Santiago-Cruz Angel, Nolan Banwell, Luke Behe, Sam Bradshaw, Adam Farruk, Ben Litkowski, Joseph Robertson, Ethan Rodriquez, Mike Roeder, Logan Ryan, Mikey Ryan, Rylan Spiker, Nick Stergiou, Chase Stone, Ethan Teague, Vincent Tomar, Nick Toskov and Will Ward.

The senior team was led by head coach Jim Christy and assistant coaches Sam Dickinson, Ken Pumphrey, Luke Scherer and Marty Toskov.
