Boys Basketball Teams Clinch Green Hornets Championships

The Greater Severna Park Athletic Association, also known as Green Hornets, crowned several boys rec basketball champions at the end of the winter season. Green Hornets recognized the following champions for scrub league (high school), seventh/eighth grade, and A and B brackets for fifth/sixth- and third/fourth-grade teams.

Scrub League Champions: Suns

Head Coach: Rob Hanley

Assistant Coach: Rob Blanck

Seventh/Eighth-Grade Champions: Magic

“Guiding the Magic, a blend of equal parts seventh- and eighth-graders, to a 19-0 season and league championship required all 10 players, a rarity in this league,” coach Matthews said. “Their combined efforts showcased the essence of teamwork and determination. Coaching wasn’t perfect, nor was each player, but the team was.”

Fifth/Sixth-Grade A Bracket Champions: Clippers

Head Coach: Juan Dominguez

Assistant Coach: Kevin O'Brien

Team: Asher Ahmad, Rory Barone, Sean Brunner, Marcellus Dominguez, Graham Fretwell, Dean O'Brien, Miles Richardson, Eli Schaufele, Silas Sprinkel, Lucas Thanner

“The Clippers wrapped up an impressive season with a stellar five-win, two-loss regular season record,” coach Dominguez said. “Their journey to triumph didn't stop there, as they powered through the playoffs with three hard-fought victories, culminating in a nail-biting 24-22 win in the championship game. It was their tenacious defense that truly set them apart, especially during the playoffs where every game was a battle of wills. This defense was the backbone of their success, carrying them through intensely competitive matchups and proving to be a decisive factor in their championship victory.”

Fifth/Sixth-Grade B Bracket Champions: Spurs

Head Coach: Matt Dougherty

Assistant Coach: Jonathan Peery

Team: Ethan Bunk, Max Carpenter, Ryan Dougherty, Ryan Kingston, Shane Lamb, Andrew Mueller, Joshua Ottoson, Charlie Peery, Benjamin Waters

Third/Fourth-Grade A Bracket Champions: Bulls

Head Coach: Kimberly Bloomfield

Assistant Coach: Derek Howells

Team: Thomas aBecket, Lawton Bloomfield, Zachary D'Orlando, Tucker Esposito, Caden Howells, Jeremy Kamas, Luca Lembo, Benjamin Lucas, Graham McGuire, Caden Smith

Coach Bloomfield reflected on the 5-2 season, which resulted in a 19-15 championship win. Her team was down 14-4 going into the fourth quarter, when Caden Howells and Lawton Bloomfield led a comeback to help their team win the A bracket.

“The Bulls had many offensive threats, but their tenacious defense was what got them to the championship,” coach Bloomfield said. “They had 10 hardworking players whose teamwork contributed to their wins whether it was shooting, rebounding or strong defense. Each of the players improved as they got deeper into the season.”

Third/Fourth-Grade B Bracket Champions: Pelicans

Head Coach: Ashley Miller

Assistant Coach: Thomas Hamlett
