Broadneck Library Rolls Out The Carpet For New Improvements

A two-week closure has brought several much-needed updates to the Broadneck Library, which welcomed readers back through its doors on April 25. The updates, which the branch had been planning for about two years, included new carpeting in the main reading area and almost every room in the building, along with a new service desk and some new painting in the teen area to make it brighter.

According to branch manager Heather Ravanbakhsh, the reasons for the updates were multifold. “Our old carpet was light gray and very dirty and dingy,” she explained. “It was definitely more than 10 years old, and it needed to be updated in its color, along with how dirty it was. Back in 2020, the old service desk was water damaged and the entire desk had to be pulled out. We had temporary tables set up and they were working OK, but they didn’t look so nice and they weren’t super functional. It’s a lot easier to help the customers and they know where to come up and put their books.”

While these updates were important for the branch, Ravanbakhsh said that, if money allows, several more upgrades could help the library, including new, slightly lower shelves to make it easier for people to reach books and giving more parts of the building a fresh coat of paint.

“There are always things on our dream wish list,” Ravanbakhsh said. “But we are always so grateful for what we do get and what we’ve got now with the new carpet is just terrific. When you walk in now, it looks like a whole new building.”
