Twice, Broadneck’s boys soccer team came from behind to tie their 4A state quarterfinal against Montgomery Blair on Friday.
To do it a third time, though, proved to be one ask too many.
Montgomery Blair scored twice in the final eight minutes of the game to beat Broadneck 4-2 and knock the Bruins out of the 4A state playoffs.
The Blazers took the lead 10 minutes in, only to see Broadneck equalize on a 25-yard free kick from T.J. Remson. Blair went ahead again almost immediately, but the Bruins again tied the game when Jed Meehan found Wilson Banwell in space, and the sophomore forward fired past the keeper for his 10th goal of the season.
But a late corner kick redirect and a penalty kick put Blair into the semifinals and ended the Bruins’ season.
Joe Brenner had three saves for Broadneck, who finish with a record of 11-7 and a 4A East Region II championship.
