Bruins And Falcons Softball, Severna Park Baseball Exit In Regionals

A season of promise for the Broadneck softball team was derailed late on by injury. The Bruins returned to the 4A East Region II championship game against Leonardtown, but absent their starting pitcher for much of the stretch run, that was as far as Broadneck could get as they fell 9-0 on May 15.

Broadneck, down normal starter Rylan Crisafulli due to injury, reached the region final after beating Bowie 16-0 three days earlier. Aliceanna Weibley had four hits and drove in four runs, while Lily Kisling drove in two runs. Kiera Plumley and Izzy Barrass teamed up to pitch five perfect innings, striking out a combined 12 of Bowie’s batters.

Broadneck, which finished with a 15-5 record, graduates 10 seniors from this year’s squad: Weibley, Kisling, Chiara McIntosh, Elena Durkin, Malayna Owens, Addie Cornelius, Grace Purdum, Amanda Ford, Abby Favazza and Bella Herrera.

Park Baseball, Softball Ousted in Regionals

After a surprising upset on the other side of the bracket, the Severna Park baseball team had itself a home game in the region final. Unfortunately, the upset was because Arundel got hot, and the Wildcats ended the Falcons’ season with a 7-2 victory at Joe Cannon Stadium in Hanover on May 13. Severna Park finished with a 14-7 record.

The Falcons got to the region final by clipping James M. Bennett 3-2 on the road on May 10. They built up a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh inning but had to hang on after a two-run error tightened the game. Evan Boucher had two hits, while Jacob Williams and Charlie Delobe each knocked in a run.

The Falcons say goodbye to nine seniors: Williams, Adam Clark, Ethan Dillion, Eric Benner, Vince Nguyen, Charlie Hartman, Dylan Grice, Benji Beisler and Ryan Jamison.

The Severna Park softball team reached the region semifinals before losing to top-seeded Northeast 8-1 on May 12, ending their season with a record of 11-10.

The Falcons survived a wild first-round game against South River four days prior, winning 12-11 in come-from-behind fashion after seeing a huge lead slip away. They plated nine runs in the first inning and led 10-0 after two, but South River scored the next 11 runs to take a one-run lead into the sixth inning. Lucy Benner’s double scored the tying run and the eventual winning run came around on an error.

Severna Park graduates just two seniors from this year’s squad: Addison Bianco and Ryleigh Smith.
