Bruins, Falcons Both Show Volleyball Promise

Having graduated so many seniors from last season’s state championship team, and with two key returners missing due to injury, many wondered what the Broadneck volleyball team would have in store for 2026.

Though they are expected to be much better at the end of the season compared to the beginning, early returns are promising.

Broadneck sits at 3-1 in the early part of the season, with a four-set loss to West Virginia’s Musselman High as the only blemish on the Bruins’ slate.

Other than that, they’ve made quick work of their opposition, including straight-set wins over Archbishop Spalding, Severna Park and Meade.

Chloe Hays, Barrett Bolter, Molly Robison and Neely Olish have led the charge in attack, giving Broadneck a multi-pronged offense to keep defenses guessing.

That could prove handy as they hit the teeth of their schedule, with a four-match stretch that includes Severn Run, Arundel and Academy of the Holy Cross.

Over at Severna Park, that straight-set loss to Broadneck is their only blemish on the season. The Falcons have won their other three matches in straight sets as well, defeating Spalding, St. Mary’s and South River.

Hannah McKinstry has paced the offense, while the defense has been charged with keeping balls up as the Falcons’ block gets creative against a height disadvantage.

The Falcons are looking ahead at a three-match stretch that could determine the course of the rest of their season: They play Severn Run, Arundel and Crofton in succession in early to mid-October.
