The opening day of any sports season is marked with anticipation, and Friday’s first competition date for Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) spring sports was no exception.
In fact, there was extra motivation as the Broadneck and Severna Park baseball and softball teams locked horns at Severna Park on Friday.
On the baseball diamond, the Bruins got a two-run double from Mike Swick and 6 1/3 innings pitched and a solo home run from Noah Forman in an 8-5 win over the Falcons.
In softball, Andrea Rom hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning, her first home run in a game at any level of competition, propelling Severna Park to a 4-2 victory over the Bruins.
