Bruins Field Hockey Races Past Southern

Broadneck’s field hockey team has a common objective with each game: start fast, control tempo and possession, score first. Rinse, repeat.

It worked to perfect precision on Thursday, as the Bruins rolled past Southern 9-1 to extend their winning streak to 25 games.

Faith Everett had three goals and three assists to pace Broadneck (5-0), while Katelyn Kearns and Raleigh Kerst also scored twice, and Kerst added an assist. Alyssa Lewis and Caroline Miller netted the other goals for the Bruins, while Chloe Page assisted twice.

Broadneck scored multiple goals in all four periods, rolling substitutions and putting players in different positions to both maintain the lead and experiment with formations that might pay dividends down the road.

“This is a good opportunity for us to put people in different positions in a competitive situation, and not just competing against each other,” said Broadneck coach Shannon Hanratty. “All the girls played well, and we still have some room to grow, moving people around to figure out our most connective lineup.”

Southern broke up the shutout late in the fourth quarter, on the Bulldogs’ only shot on target. The Bruins forced 20 saves from Southern goalkeeper Addie Jones.

Broadneck hosts Severna Park on Tuesday.
