Compass Pointe Golf Courses’ Corey Higgs Named Top 50 Operation 36 Instructor

The Operation 36 Top 50 Golf Coach list is the only one of its kind that uses quantitative measures to determine who is making the biggest impact on golf through their program. A key component of Op 36 Golf Program is the ability to measure progress for the golfer’s journey. Golf coaches are evaluated by their use of formal golf matches throughout the year, application of the Op 36 curriculum, assessing golfer’s progress throughout the season, and the use of online social tools to encourage more practice and play.

“Our intention when creating this award was to be able to show families which coaches and teams are going ‘above and beyond’ every day for their golfers,” said Ryan Dailey, PGA, COO and co-founder of Operation 36. “Congratulations to Corey and the entire Compass Pointe team for offering an exceptional program that we call a ‘Top 50 Experience.’”

Op 36 provides a platform for a robust curriculum via a phone app that allows students to watch videos of content covered during class. If a student misses a class, they can watch the videos and know exactly what was covered that day. What separates Op 36 from other group golf programing is that juniors and adults are able get out onto the golf course and play almost immediately – no other instruction programming offers a faster pathway. Old-school instruction methods place value on coaching on the practice range for months before students get a chance to play golf on the course.

Higgs’ teaching style goes well beyond the game of golf as he works on building character and helping students understand their score is not what golf is all about. How one sets their goals, works to achieve their potential, and how they persevere through a difficult situation or challenge, is what really counts.

“I like to be creative with our learning activities by engaging our youth with practical learning solutions,” said Higgs. “Our youth have a lot of fun and are excited to talk about golf with their family and friends.”

Compass Pointe features two 18-hole championship courses including the 7,134-yard Northeast Course and the 6,979-yard Southwest Course. Spread over 800 acres, both courses were designed by Lindsay Ervin and opened for play in 2003. Compass Pointe’s Op 36 is divided into three age groups for juniors (7-10, 10-13 and 14-17 years old), a ladies-only program and a co-ed Op 36 class.
