As the school year has drawn to a close, so too have the careers of some longtime elementary school staff members. After decades of service within the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system, Jones Elementary School principal’s secretary Carol Alderman and Benfield Elementary School teacher Patti Bartlett are retiring.
Alderman has been with Jones Elementary since 2000, working in the school’s front office for nearly 25 years. As the principal’s secretary, Alderman has been a core foundation of Jones Elementary, helping students, parents and staff alike. Her knowledge and approachability have made her an irreplaceable member of the school’s community.
After 46 years of teaching at Benfield Elementary, Bartlett taught her last day on June 13. To show gratitude for Bartlett’s service to the community, the Benfield Elementary PTO gifted her with personalized artwork of the school building honoring her time there. Bartlett has left a lasting impact on generations of students since 1979, being remembered fondly even by former students who now live across the country.
