An annual tradition returns to Severna Park High School (SPHS) this month as the Falcons host the Marching in the Park Invitational, a regional competition between high school marching bands. This year, USBANDS has lined up nine marching bands from Maryland and Virginia to compete at SPHS.
The Falcons will compete against the Broadneck Bruins and Riverside High School in Leesburg, Virginia, in their group. Awards will be given for best music, best visual, best overall effect, best percussion and best color guard.
The invitational will open with the National Anthem played by SPHS and future Falcons from Severna Park Middle School and Benfield, Folger McKinsey, Jones, Oak Hill, Severna Park and Shipley’s Choice elementary schools.
The competition begins at 5 p.m. on October 17. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors at the door. Cash and credit are accepted for tickets and concessions; merchandise is credit only.
