Children’s Theatre Of Annapolis Brings “Alice In Wonderland Jr.” To Life For Two Days

Posted

Get ready to experience a vibrant, upside-down world where imagination runs wild. This month, Children’s Theatre of Annapolis (CTA) will present its high-energy summer camp production of Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” This 60-minute musical adventure is the perfect summer outing for families of all ages, taking audiences on a magical journey of self-discovery.

“Three weeks of hard work, a boundless amount of heart, and this amazing team have brought together an incredible experience,” said Jason Kimmell, CTA’s executive director of management and education. “These students are remarkably talented, hardworking and dedicated to making this a spectacular production for our community. Each one brings their own unique talent to the production, collaboratively unifying them to gel into one cohesive, amazing show. While sharing their own passion for the performing arts with these students, our teaching artists have worked diligently to hone their talents and give each one their chance to shine bright.”

The Magic Behind the Curtain

This production showcases the talent of 35 local young performers (ages 8-14) onstage, supported by a crew of 13 intensive summer camp tech students (ages 12-18) managing the backstage magic. Under the expert guidance of five industry teaching artists, these young stars have spent their summer mastering performing, puppetry, choreography, vocals and technical theater to bring a top-notch spectacle to the Annapolis community.

A Timeless Adventure, Reimagined

When young Alice finds herself in a strange world where everything seems upside down, she must find her way home — and find herself along the way. Audiences will travel through Wonderland alongside Alice as she encounters the iconic characters everyone loves: the ever-tardy White Rabbit, the grinning Cheshire Cat, a cool Caterpillar, the wacky Mad Hatter and the hot-tempered Queen of Hearts.

The production features classic Disney favorites such as “The Golden Afternoon,” “The Unbirthday Song” and “Painting the Roses Red,” alongside music from the 2010 live-action film.
