Forsyth’s 3200m Championship Highlights SP Performance At States

Posted

Severna Park’s Ryan Forsyth capped a storybook senior year on May 24, winning the 3200m state final race in a time of 9:14.53 at Morgan State University.

Forsyth’s time was the fastest of all four 3200m winning times in each of the state classifications—1A, 2A, 3A and 4A—and earned him his third individual state championship in three seasons this year. He also won the individual state cross country championship this past fall and the indoor 3200m championship this past winter.

Together with the Severna Park cross country program’s team state championship in the fall season, the latest title is the perfect closing chapter in a high school career that has helped raise Severna Park running to heights never before reached in the history of the program.

“I think what makes me most proud of our program is just the hard work and dedication I see,” said Forsyth of the elite statewide and nationwide status of Severna Park distance running. “They’ve gotten up every morning in the summer, every morning over holidays and just really worked hard and pushed themselves, and that gives our team incredible depth. Even though we are graduating five guys from our varsity, we have so many talented guys just waiting and ready to step up to take our place… I just love to tell all those eighth and ninth graders out there that cross country is an amazing sport and amazing team, and we’re doing big things. It’s a great group of guys and a great group of coaches.”
