Looking for entertaining and festive activities for the family this holiday season? Severna Park and Pasadena's close proximity to many major cities and event hotspots makes it easy to find holiday events. Here is a list of some of the most spirited events suitable for a day or weekend trip.

B&O Railroad Holiday Festival of Trains

B&O Railroad is ringing in the holiday season with the Holiday Festival of Trains from December 13 through January 2 from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The event, suitable for children ages 1 to 92, will feature Reindeer Railway train rides, model train layouts, Santa’s Winter Wonderland and photos with Santa. Visitors must wear a mask indoors.

Christmas at Gaylord National Resort

From November 26 through December 31, the Gaylord National Resort is hosting a variety of Christmas events. Last year, the event was canceled, so it is back and better than ever. The festivities will include ice skating, ice bumper cars, holiday dining, photos with Santa, scavenger hunts, seasonal spa treatments, light shows and holiday shows. The event is suitable for all ages, and ticket bundles are available for families looking to attend multiple events.

Enchant Christmas at Nationals Park

Enchant Christmas is returning to Washington, D.C. after a year-long hiatus. The event gives the public the unique experience of exploring Nationals Park in a new and exciting way. From November 26 through January 2, the doors will open for a spectacular lights display and Christmas village following the adventures of “The Mischievous Elf.” In addition to the maze and market of vendors, the event will also feature story time and photos with Santa Claus, holiday-themed drinks and food, an ice-skating trail and a star experience for private parties.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra has become a holiday favorite. “Christmas Eve/ Sarajevo 12/24,” “Christmas Canon” and “Wizards In Winter” are staples on any holiday playlist and now you can listen to these classic songs live at Capital One Arena. On December 23, the famous rock orchestra will perform two shows at 3:00pm and 8:00pm. The event will include all of the theatrics of a rock concert, with all of the holiday spirit of watching your favorite Christmas movie. Tickets begin at $49.50, and masks are required for all guests regardless of vaccination status.

Winterfest of Lights in Ocean City

From November 18 through January 2, Northside Park in Ocean City will be lit up from Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. The display will feature thousands of lights and animated displays and a 50-foot Christmas tree. This year, the walking path has been expanded to include many surprises. Tickets are $5 for people 12 and older and free for children under 11. The display is subject to close during inclement weather.

Zoo Lights at the Maryland Zoo

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is presenting a light show with over 100,000 LED lights highlighting zoo favorites. This year’s festivities begin November 19 and run through January 2 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Proceeds from tickets will support the zoo’s animal care and conservation work. Masks are required indoors regardless of vaccination status for guests over the age of 2.

Santa Claus will hang out at the zoo every Saturday during the festivities. This year, the display has expanded to include the Schaefer Plaza, the Farmyard and the train station. There is also a new ticketing option called BRRR Fest, which is available on November 26 and 27, and includes unlimited beer and wine sampling for guests over the age of 21. Other ticket options include a walk-thru and drive-thru. The walk-thru tickets are per-person and guests can visit Zoo Central for snacks, hot chocolate, and free train and carousel rides. Drive-thru tickets are per-vehicle and allow an unlimited number of riders to enjoy the event from the warmth of their vehicle. Advanced registration is required.
