James Mastro Set To Perform At Rams Head On Tuesday

Posted

Hoboken-based rock/Americana singer-songwriter-guitarist James Mastro (The Bongos, The Health & Happiness Show, Ian Hunter) will perform in Annapolis at  Rams Head On Stage on Tuesday, November 19, to play songs from his recent full-length debut solo album, “Dawn of a New Error.” Mastro will open for Marshall Crenshaw. Showtime is at 7:30pm.

“Dawn of a New Error” marks the return of James Mastro to the front and center as singer and songwriter. Featuring guest vocals by Ian Hunter and produced by Tony Shanahan – best known as Patti Smith’s bassist, co-producer and musical collaborator – the songs were recorded whenever Mastro and Shanahan found time to get together, between Shanahan's work with Smith and Mastro's work with Hunter and other projects. Noteworthy drummers on the record include Brian Griffin (Brandi Carlile, The Black Crowes) and Steve Goulding (The Mekons, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe). The album was recorded and mixed by Grammy nominee James Frazee (Patti Smith, Sharon Van Etten, Marshall Crenshaw), and mastered by the legendary Greg Calbi.

From The Beacon Theatre in New York to the Shepherd's Bush Empire in England, Mastro has roused crowds with brilliant performances channeling the sonic inventiveness of David Bowie and the tastefulness of Mick Ronson.

Mastro recently discussed his album “Dawn of a New Error” for MPress Records.

“As an underage kid, I used to do whatever it took to see the bands I loved: wait in line for hours for tickets, or sneak into clubs and push my way to the front of the stage,” he said. “Now, as an overaged kid, I’ve had the best seat in the house playing guitar onstage with many of those same artists that inspired me to do what I’ve been doing all these years. And I still feel like I’m sneaking in!”
