Baking on the Magothy
Using secret family recipes and only the finest ingredients — rich butter, dark chocolate, Madagascar vanilla — Baking on the Magothy makes each batch with care. Its kitchen hums with quiet joy as trays of golden-brown cookies emerge from the oven, slightly crisp at the edges and soft at the center.

We held several ribbon-cuttings in May! Our first was in celebration of the season opening of the Severna Park Farmers Market. What a wonderful market filled with fresh fruits and veggies, plants, honey and so much more. The market is open every Saturday from 8:00am to noon.
Next, we celebrated the grand opening of Yoga Factory’s third location. Yoga Factory is going gangbusters with 16 styles of classes, and we are so glad to have it in Arnold.
Another grand opening was Anchor Family Dentistry in Severna Park. Owner Dr. Andrew Lericos purchased the practice from longtime renowned dentist Dr. David Deitrick. It was an enjoyable event with Dr. Deitrick welcoming the new owner to the community.
We were honored to participate in the five-year anniversary celebration of Inspire Integrative Medicine in Arnold. Founded by Dr. Mariaileen Sourwine, formerly of Annapolis Internal Medicine, the practice combines traditional medicine with holistic practices.
After 20 years in business, Delegate Seth Howard and his wife, Erika, sold Broadleaf Tobacco to longtime customer Matt Frye. We learned all about the business and the camaraderie that has formed through their many events and the simple ability to have a place to relax and enjoy.
Our last ribbon-cutting of the month was the grand opening of Nothing Bundt Cakes in Park Plaza. People turned out in droves to celebrate and sample the delicious creations, and we are all excited to have a bakery back in the “park” again.
Our Spring Shop Local Fun Festival was held at Park Plaza on May 3, drawing more than 70 exhibitors and hundreds of community members. The event featured entertainment from the Priddy Music Academy, Kwon’s Taekwondo, Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi and Children’s Theatre of Annapolis. In addition to our wonderful sponsors, our gold sponsors each contributed $500 to their charities of choice, as follows: Landmark Roofing donated to the Newton Gentry Recovery Awareness Foundation, SERVPRO of Annapolis and Severna Park donated to Opportunity Builders Inc., the Severna Park Elks donated to SPAN, Checkmark Power Washing donated to Katherine’s Light Foundation, and Kogen Dojo donated to Reveille Grounds.
Our Successful Women in Business Group’s First Cup Club was hosted by Cottonwood in Severna Park, an amazing place for quilting, sewing supplies, classes and so much more. Our Wellness Business Connections Group held its monthly gathering at The Healing Collective in Severna Park.
The Friends of Kinder Farm Park hosted our first cookout of the season at Kinder Farm, where attendees enjoyed tractor rides, animals and great camaraderie.
We are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the annual Independence Day parade and are looking forward to a wonderful event. We will have many floats, music, community businesses and nonprofits, Scouts and more. Our grand marshal is retired business owner and local historian Scott Jay. We also have our decorated bike contest at the chamber for our youngest community members to enjoy. Find details about the parade at www.gspacc.com.
As always, we encourage you to shop locally and support our small businesses. They are the drivers of a vibrant economy, the job creators, providers of unique goods and services, donors to our nonprofits and those in need, and so much more!
