In honor of a former Severna Park resident, the Katherine Mueller Memorial All-Day Music Festival is set for this Saturday at Severna Park Taphouse, and all proceeds will go to charity.
According to the event organizers, attendees can enjoy “an unforgettable day filled with live music, community, and giving back as we come together to honor Katherine’s beautiful legacy and continue making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.”
Mueller was just 31 years old when she died from a neuroendocrine tumor in 2021. Her mother and stepfather, Robin and Larry Sells, started Katherine’s Light Foundation (KLF) to honor her positive spirit and to support organizations serving people who fight cancer. KLF also seeks to provide awareness, information and support to cancer patients.
“Our sole purpose is to raise funding, and we will continue to donate to those causes that we help with now,” Larry said. “The more we raise, the more we give away because our (IRS Form) 990 shows we don’t take one penny in compensation. All board members are not compensated, so we’re able to give it away.”
Donations support Wellness House of Annapolis, the Luminis Health DeCesaris Cancer Institute, the BWMC Foundation cancer patient fund, the Mercy Hospital NET cancer patient fund, the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation, Serving People Across Neighborhoods (SPAN) and the Anne Arundel Community College Katherine Mueller Nursing Scholarship.
“April Gray, our first Katherine Mueller Nursing Scholarship winner from Anne Arundel Community College School of Nursing, is employed at Luminis. We love that,” Larry said. “So, we continue giving back, and the cycle there is awesome. That’s what we’re about. We want to raise a bunch not to keep it in the bank. We want to raise a bunch to give it all away.”
The goal is a combined three-year total of $300,000 raised after this year’s festival. KLF raised $210,000 from the first two events.
“We have lots of auction items that are very good quality, so we can get there,” Larry said. “But come be a part. Just know that this helps us shine a light on those who need it.”
Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available. This is a rain-or-shine festival, and ride sharing to the Severna Park Taphouse parking lot is encouraged. See the full music lineup below.
“I don’t know if we’ll cure cancer in my lifetime, but we’re sure going to do our best to smack it in the mouth and give it a bloody nose,” Larry said.
