Letter To The Editor: Motorcycles And Motorized Scooters

Posted

My name is Kathy Cochran, and I recently moved to Severna Park, and love the area and the people. I’m a daily walker, and I’ve noticed far too often too many boys and girls under 17 are driving motorcycles and motorized scooters on the street and walking trails during the day and night. Many are not wearing helmets, are going far too fast, they’re wearing sandals or flipflops and not shoes, they’re playing music, they’re a group together on the trail, and their motorcycles and scooters do not have lights when driving at night.

As a mom and grandmother who recently retired, I’m very concerned, and strongly feel children should have required lessons before driving a motorized scooter or motorcycle, regardless of how fast it can go, and each vehicle should have a license to ensure children understand the rules, and the drivers, passengers and walkers are safe.

Thank you for the opportunity to send my concerns, and please let me know how I can help to make this change.
