On October 6, the Anne Arundel County Lifeline 100 bicycle event celebrated its 10th annual community ride. The event had over 850 registrants, with support from over 100 volunteers and more than 25 sponsors. The event featured 15-, 30-, 65- and 100-mile rides, showcasing the county’s scenic trails and byways. Over 100 children and families also participated in the free Children’s Bike Rodeo and Family Fun Safari Ride at Kinder Farm Park. This annual event is hosted by a partnership of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks, and Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BikeAAA).
Since its inaugural ride in 2014, the event has generated over $400,000 in proceeds for Anne Arundel County nonprofits.
This year’s proceeds of $31,500 were generated by registration fees, sponsorships and other in-kind support. During Hunger Action Month in September, Lifeline 100 also donated $1,500 to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, which partners with Lifeline on other programs, including Wheels of Hope.
The following donations were made at the end of October during the Anne Arundel County Bicycle Advisory Commission meeting at the Arundel Center. County Executive Steuart Pittman also recognized BikeAAA with a 10th anniversary citation.
The annual Lifeline 100 event is a community experience for people of all ages and abilities and exemplifies the power of partnership among county agencies and nonprofits. The event received the Innovative Program Award from the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association and, in 2015, won the Maryland My Maryland Special Event of the Year award.
